Today, however, attitudes towards plastic have changed. Increasing awareness of its impact on the environment has encouraged roasters, including us, to seek out new and innovative ways of packaging coffee. We see it as important not only in reducing waste, but also in the retention of our customers.

A popular alternative to traditional plastic is low-density polyethylene (LDPE). It has similar characteristics, with the benefits of being recyclable and reusable. LDPE offers a good balance for roasters looking to move away from traditional plastics without the need to completely rethink their business models. It has similar characteristics to traditional plastics, including a long shelf life, but it is fully recyclable, non toxic and easy to reuse. 

LDPE is commonly recycled at your council's recycling point- you can find your closest one using https://www.recyclenow.com/. Some councils allow them in the blue bins - usually if they allow plastic bags in there our coffee bags can join them

You can recycle this plastic if your Local Authority mentions:

• Bread bags
• Frozen food bags
• Squeezable bottles i.e hand cream tubes
• Bubble wrap – if specifically mentioned
• Carrier bags that can be stretched – Local authorities often don’t collect carrier bags, but can be recycled in local supermarkets
